Overview

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) was modernizing its Cleveland manufacturing facility as part of a broader commitment to improve operational efficiency and support its long-term sustainability goals. The company needed a solution that could upgrade critical infrastructure while preserving flexibility for future investments and expansion.

Through Metrus' Sustainable Energy Services Agreement (SESA), DTNA moved forward with a multi-building modernization program without a large upfront investment, creating a model that could be replicated across additional facilities.

The Story

DTNA wanted to upgrade and standardize critical cooling and heating systems at its Cleveland facility while maintaining flexibility to include multiple technologies within the project scope. Metrus' off-balance-sheet SESA enabled DTNA to tailor the scope to its operational priorities while creating a repeatable model for future facilities across its manufacturing network.

The Upshot

Working with Centrica as our ESCO partner, we modernized infrastructure across seven buildings through a 12-year SESA totaling approximately $6.56 million in capital investment. The project established DTNA's first SESA implementation and created a scalable foundation for future modernization efforts across additional manufacturing facilities.

The project is expected to generate roughly $1 million in annual savings, while reducing energy consumption by approximately 8.6 million kWh and avoiding 2,645 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year.
