At the 30th meeting of the UN Climate Change Secretariat (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, last month, Metrus Energy CEO Bob Hinkle joined the Energy Gang Podcast to share his key takeaways from this year's gathering.

Overall, Hinkle said that COP30 made him feel "energized and optimistic."

"There are so many different nodes [to the clean energy transition] where people are doing the day-to-day hard work of getting projects done," Hinkle said. "Just being part of that is uplifting." He was particularly encouraged to observe the increased collaboration between the private sector and subnationals, describing it as a new era that is less top-down (i.e., federal) and more bottom-up in terms of sustainable energy project development.

Hinkle's conversation with Energy Gang host Ed Crooks and regular guest Amy Jaffe also covered the U.S. business presence at COP, why showing up matters, and how the increasing demand for cooling across our warming planet is reframing the intersection of energy and public health as a human rights issue. Hinkle also noted how Metrus' Energy as a Service financial model has enabled hospitals, universities, and C&I customers to make energy upgrades without capital expenditure.
