February 1, 2018

Press Release

Metrus Energy, a market leader in energy and water efficiency financing, has announced an Efficiency Services Agreement (ESA) project with Bristol Hospital in Bristol, Connecticut, the company’s first deal in Connecticut.Construction for the $4.1 million efficiency-as a-service project will begin immediately at the hospital’s main campus and at its Ingraham Manor skilled nursing facility. The transaction includes LED lighting retrofits, building envelope upgrades, an energy management system, power factor correction, steam trap replacements, water conservation and air handling unit replacements. The project will save 1.6 million kWh of electricity, 125,000 CCF of natural gas and 3.7 kgal of water per year, which will reduce the hospital’s energy and water use by more than 20%. This translates into approximately 15,840 tons of CO2—the equivalent of taking 3,084 cars off the road over the life of the project. We are excited to start 2018 with a new health care ESA project that incorporates numerous efficiency measures for two key Bristol Hospital locations,” said Bob Hinkle, President and CEO, Metrus Energy. “With this project, Bristol Hospital continues to be a model steward for its community by tapping into energy and water savings to upgrade its facilities,” said Bob Hinkle, President and CEO, Metrus Energy“We are committed to enhancing the health and well-being of our community and the patients we serve. By undertaking this efficiency upgrade project now, we are ensuring operational resiliency and reliability and continued patient comfort,” said Ric Braam, Chief Financial Officer, Bristol Hospital. “Being able to pay for critical new equipment and facility upgrades from energy and water savings makes good financial sense and keeps us focused on providing outstanding patient care.”Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, will be responsible for the installation, operation and management of the energy and water efficiency measures. “Bristol Hospital operates in a 24/7/365 environment where energy and water are always being used and aging infrastructure is costly and requires significant maintenance,” said Joshua Tucker, vice president and general manager for Trane in New York, Connecticut and Vermont. “Implementing comprehensive upgrades for such a critical provider in the Bristol community will do more than just save Bristol Hospital energy and water: it will reduce operational costs, simplify facility maintenance, and enhance indoor air quality as well as patient comfort.”New Resource Bank is Metrus’ lending partner on this transaction. The overall project will benefit from an incentive from Eversource. “We are committed to lending to socially and environmentally responsible businesses and organizations and the Bristol project aligns with our energy efficiency investments,” said Bill Peterson, Executive Vice President at New Resource Bank. “As a mission-oriented bank, we see energy and water efficiency as a vital component of our sustainable lending philosophy and a key sustainable business practice for our customers.”
